The Salmon River is heating up with steady summer flows and a mixed bag of action for anglers willing to put in the time. While it's still early for the major king salmon push, a few early arrivals have already been spotted moving through the lower river, sparking excitement for what’s to come. Most of the bite right now is coming from resident smallmouth bass and a few skittish steelhead holding in deeper pockets where the water stays cool. Water temps are hovering in the high 60s, which means early mornings and late evenings are your best windows for active fish. Steelhead are still taking advantage of shaded runs and are striking well on natural presentations—think egg sacs, stoneflies, and small jigs. The bass bite remains reliable with soft plastics and crankbaits producing near structure and deeper holes.
